About this Position:
As Kalmbach Feeds and Kalmbach Nutritional Services continue to grow, we are looking for passionate, hard-working, diplomatic, and detail-oriented team members that live our values to join our growing team. As the Swine Research Finishing Manager, you will work in concert with
Kalmbach Nutritional Services and the Swine Nutrition Team to implement and conduct live swine studies at the Kalmbach Swine Research Finisher.
Primary Responsibilities:
• Provide overall supervision for Kalmbach Swine Research Finisher operations by managing personnel, land, buildings, and equipment
• Coordinate with the Swine Nutrition Team and Kalmbach Nutritional Services to conduct two(2) to six(6) live animal research projects per year and apply experimental treatments per project protocols
• Coordinate with the Feed Mill Operations Team to ensure experimental feed is properly manufactured and delivered
• Supervise and participate in the daily husbandry needs for research animals including placement in facility, vaccine administration, treatment of sick animals, feeding, handling, euthanizing, and all other swine rearing needs
• Supervise and participate in the sample/data collection for research studies including weighing live animals and feed, performing necropsies for post-mortem sample collection, and collecting blood, tissue, fecal or environmental samples
• Maintain data integrity by supervising and participating in data collection, entry, organization, management, and reporting
The Right Candidate:
• Bachelor’s degree required, degree in Animal Science, Agriculture, or related agricultural field preferred
• Must be comfortable with handling animals up to 300 pounds in weight, demonstrated experience with applied swine research preferred
• Ability to maintain detailed records and resource management
• Ability to lift 50 lbs. on a consecutive basis and work in dusty conditions
• Ability to work weekend and/or evening hours to accommodate research needs
• Ability to relocate near Vanlue, OH and possess a valid driver’s license
• Demonstrated experience in managing farm enterprises, personnel, and budgets preferred
• Excellent Microsoft Office skills (Excel and Word)
• Does not have regular contact with pigs outside of Kalmbach Swine Research Finisher
