The Department of Animal Science is the largest academic program in the College of Agriculture and Life Sciences and provides academic instruction to over 750 undergraduate students and 100 graduate students. The Department also is a leader in extension and engagement programs to farmers, allied industry and the public, and conducts internationally recognized research into the nutrition, genetic reproductive, health and well-being of domesticated animals.
The North Carolina State University Department of Animal Science is seeking a Swine Extension Program Associate. This position will be responsible for working with NCSU swine scientists to develop and deliver educational opportunities to pig farmers throughout North Carolina. Specific extension programming efforts include managing and/or assisting with the NCSU Swine Research Forum, NC Pork Conference, NC State Fair Swine Show, regional swine meetings and the development of electronic educational materials for farmers. The position will also assist with the management of applied research projects on both university and industryNorth Carolina State owned pig farms relative to project data and dissemination of reports.
Bachelor’s degree; or an equivalent combination of training and experience.
All degrees must be received from appropriately accredited institutions.
Bachelor’s degree in animal science (or a closely related field) or an equivalent combination of training and experience.
Familiarity with Excel or SAS, or similar software.
Strong interpersonal communication skills.
Master’s degree or equivalent combination of training and experience.
Knowledge of pork quality assurance certification.
Knowledge of commercial pork industry.
Experience in swine production, swine extension programs.
A valid North Carolina driver’s license is required to be obtained and maintained within 60 days of hire date.
