Job Description
-Pig Hill Animal Caretaker: Work alongside barn manager and current employees to perform daily chores and animal care at the 4400 head gilt development, gestation barns, and farrowing. Responsibilities include but are not limited to:
- Expose oldest gilts daily to a boar and track observed heat dates
- Breeding sows and gilts
- Identify health challenged livestock and take proper corrective actions
- Monitoring herd health through daily herd checks
- Properly administer injectable and water vaccinations and medications
- Pre-Farrow room preparations
- Attend Farrowing (Birthing) Sows
- Perform Day 1 piglet care
- Assess ventilation for ideal piglet and sow environment
- Sow and piglet movements
- Adapt and learn new technologies
- Assist in areas of daily farm work which requires teamwork
- Sharing and developing passion throughout the company for well managed and cared for pigs and well-kept facilities
- Keep accurate records
- Perform general housekeeping and maintain high standards of cleanliness
- Implement and practice strict biosecurity
Some tasks will be shared duties among the farm staff. Other duties you may find yourself participating in:
- Processing Piglets
- Vaccinating & Weaning piglets
- Power washing
- General maintenance

- Ability to lift up to 30 pounds
