Nutrition Specialist

About this Job:

As the Nutrition Specialist, you will be responsible for supporting our feed operations in PA, IN, and NC. You will report to the Nutritionist and will be a hands-on leader overseeing feed logistics, quality assurance programs, and data management. You will lead with a focus on production techniques, attention to detail, and efficiency.

Responsibilities

Feed Logistics

  • Complete ownership of addressing feed order needs:
    • Coordinate changes, cancellations, and transfers of feed orders
    • Coordinate investigations of feed or delivery issues
    • Communicate with growers and feed mills as needs arise
  • Act as liaison between CVFF and feed mills (i.e. invoice issues, tonnage restriction due to weather or holiday, etc.)
  • Communication with toll mills to handle invoice accuracy questions/corrections
  • Set up new barns in system with correct feed mill
  • Optimize barns fed by toll mills and coordinate barn movement
  • Coordinate Veterinary Feed Directive (VFD) and Feed Allocation Software (FAS) med plan
  • Assist with data entry into FAS, Brill, and accounting programs
  • Assist with audit of weekly feed prices and feed invoices
  • Track and communicate variances to feed budgets with production
  • Maintain and distribute Feed Med Report and Feed Performance Record
  • Benchmark ingredient pricing, manufacturing, and delivery costs against AgriStats
  • Assist procurement team with ingredient usage data for rebates
  • Create and maintain feed ordering training process for new producers and farm managers
  • Coordinate formula changes with Nutritionist and feed mills
  • Assist in Process Verified feed audits and a work with feed mills on corrective action plans
  • Ensure transition of barns to and from Process Verified program
  • Other duties as assigned by manager

Nutrition Support

  • Deploy robust quality assurance program at feed mills
  • Ensure sample submission from feed mills is correct per protocol
  • Update feed quality specification spreadsheet
  • Compare feed sample results to formulated specification for variance
  • Monitor feed mill partners’ overall performance
  • Generate weekly and monthly reports on feed costs, feed performance, and feed quality
  • Periodically visit farms and feed mills to assess feed quality issues
  • Other projects as assigned by manager as needs arise

Team CVFF

  • Participate in weekly Level 10 department meeting
  • Performance Excellence
  • Periodically attend production meetings
  • Annual coordination of CVFF producer calendar
Requirement:

Education and Work Experience

Bachelor’s degree in Animal Sciences, Ag Economics, Ag Business or related field (Preferred)
3+ years of experience in swine production, feed manufacturing, or logistics
