Nursery/Grow Finish Service Manager

About this Job:

Description and Responsibilities:

  • Production and marketing results responsibility for 60,000 + spaces per year based in South Dakota.
  • Direct supervision of a nursery-grow finish system, contract growers and barn labor team.
  • Responsible to ensure completion of stated goals in productivity, costs and employee measures.
  • Accountable for a system which strives to achieve excellence with industry standards and achievements.

DUTIES INCLUDE:  Direct and lead the activities of a team of contract growers and barn labor to ensure:

  • Scheduling efficiency
  • Manage inventories
  • Implementation of standard operating procedures
  • Effective communication and organization skills
  • Identification of improvement areas and follow through
  • Monitoring of key priorities such as: pig placements, biosecurity, health, medication and vaccine usage, pig flow, marketing, etc.
  • Regular and accurate reporting of results and action plans
  • Provides technical and leadership development to – new and existing contract growers and barn labor and monitors performance
  • Trains and develops employees and growers on Sunterra’s SOP’s
  • Be a part and liaises closely with the senior management team to review and decide the best options for current and future contractual relationships
  • Works effectively with partners responsible for providing inputs to the grow finish process, feed mill managers, nutritionist, veterinarians, agronomy, transportation, etc.
  • Must be able to lift on a regular basis 50-60lbs.
Requirement:

• Proven strong, effective leadership experience.
• Strong relationship building, persuasion, influence and conflict resolution skills required.
• Extensive farm management experience.
• Demonstrates a high level of professionalism and leadership skills.
• Ability to manage time and priorities in a fast-paced changing environment is essential.
• Effective communication skills and experience in exercising independent thinking and judgment.
• Uses teamwork to promote excellence.
• Ability to travel commensurate with position responsibilities.

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE:
B.S. degree, Associate’s degree, or equivalent degree from a two-year college or technical school preferred; or six months to one-year related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
