Maintenance and Repair Regional Manager

Christensen Farms is looking to hire a Maintenance Manager to help oversee day to day operations on our farms in Illinois. This position will be based out of our Kansas, IL office and overseeing a small team across eastern Illinois to ensure the highest quality of service and timely repairs are executed across the region. This position will require some driving between the office and farms and a company vehicle will be provided to you.

Christensen Farms is one of the largest, family-owned pork producers in the United States, marketing approximately 3.6 million hogs per year. Headquartered in Sleepy Eye, Minnesota, the company operates throughout the Midwest with facilities in Minnesota, Iowa, Nebraska, Illinois and South Dakota. Christensen Farms owns three feed mills, manages 143,000 sows on 44 farms, and oversees more than 350 nurseries and grow-finish sites. The company employees nearly 1,000 people and maintains 1,500 contract partnerships.

The company is vertically integrated with a strong presence across the pork value chain from farm to fork. Christensen Farms is the largest shareholder of Triumph Foods LLC, a producer-owned primary pork processing plant in St. Joseph, Missouri. In turn, Triumph Food members own 50 percent of Daily’s Premium Meats, a specialty pork processor bacon and other premium pork products. Triumph Foods also holds a 50 percent partnership in Seaboard Triumph Foods, LLC of Sioux City, Iowa, a primary pork processing plant.

Position Overview and Responsibilities:

In your primary job function you will be accountable for daily direction and technical development of Maintenance and Repair Technicians. You will ensure execution of facility repair, maintenance, and renovation. You will provide daily in-field leadership, including on-job follow-up and coaching. You will need to effectively utilize and apply labor, equipment, and material resources to achieve quality expectations, to meet stated deadlines, and to manage cost for optimum value. Schedule and review department metrics and performance results for your team. Implement best practices to ensure reliability and profitability of the department as it relates to organizational objectives.

Major Areas of Accountability:

  • Staff Responsibilities
    1. Technical direction and in field leadership of maintenance and reliability technicians
    2. Ensure execution of priority work orders, scheduled repairs, and maintenance practices
    3. Schedule and Plan, and PM’s and Condition Based Maintenance
    4. Management of internal and external labor resources
    5. Communication to and support of production managers
    6. Understand and ensure application of bio-security protocol
    7. Ensure safety requirements are met and safe practices are exercised
    8. Conduct random audits of staff for both bio-security and time card entries.
  • Direct Responsibilities
    1. Scheduling efficiency to achieve maximum productivity and meet deadlines
    2. Ensure timely and accurate work order information flow between field staff, customer, and administration.
    3. Contribute to the improvement of facilities and reduced total cost by means of Total Quality Management
    4. Ensure care and proper use of company assets, including vehicles, tools, and equipment
    5. Contribute and participate with facility renovation and repair processes.
    6. Lead department meetings, ensure value of meetings through utilization of meetings processes
    7. Ensure we are creating a safe and healthy work environment for staff and compliant with permit required safety initiatives.
  • Management Responsibilities
    1. Assist in reviewing and hiring of repair and maintenance technicians
    2. Provide timely and accurate information to Production Management and Asset Management on work order progress or challenges
    3. Review repair service key indicators and identify opportunities, develop and implement improvements, and recognize and reward areas of excellence
    4. Execute hiring of sub-contractors and completion of sub-contracts to meet CF legal and cost standards.

Qualifications Required:

The individual must perform responsibilities to meet operational work flow, be profit driven and customer oriented.
You must possess the ability to work in a collaborative environment, be willing to push the difficult issues and have a strong desire to understand the business to work in partnership with operational leaders.
You need to have the ability to adapt time and efforts in priority areas.
Five plus years of experience in agriculture or agri-business is preferred and work requires an extensive knowledge of business operations.
Must have two years’ experience leading or managing a team.
Must have knowledge of repair service processes and an understanding of equipment repair, electrical systems, parts, materials, and vendors.

Job Requirements:

Because this position requires operating a company vehicle, or regular mileage reimbursement, any offer for this position is contingent upon the review of your motor vehicle record (MVR). The MVR will be reviewed to determine insurability based on CF’s insurance carrier and company policy.

Work Environment:

Must be able to work in environments with temperatures ranging from cold to hot and humid
Must be able to work and handle exposures from dusty conditions, odor, high noise levels, concrete floors, cleaning components and extended work hours.
