Job Description

Objectives:  To assist and work directly with contract growers in a hands-on manner with every aspect of raising pigs for Strobel Farms.  This will include supervision over the farms and communication with the entire leadership team at Strobel Farms.

Job Responsibilities:

On Contract Grower Sites:

  • Assist with identifying welfare issue pigs and euthanizing them with or without the grower on site.
  • Identify sick pigs and help pull pigs and treat with or without the grower on site.
  • Help grower start water medication when necessary.
  • Assist growers in orally vaccinating while making sure feed medication is out and water lines are clean.
  • Check inventories at barns to make sure we aren’t overstocked or have expired medications.
  • Help grower with counts of total numbers as well as rejects on new groups.
  • Assist with counting, sorting, and managing culls and, prior to 1st cut – communicating number of belly busts and junk pigs that we want moved out early in the marketing window.
  • Help grower start pigs on feed and water and to get them sorted correctly.
  • Adjust feed, water and air settings, as needed.
  • Ensure to maintain, as directed, all bio-security policies and procedures are being followed and enforced correctly.
  • Ensure sites are well maintained and presentable.
  • Teach growers about feed bin management and how to order feed correctly.
  • Exhibit a strong sense of teamwork and care for the pigs while working to achieve the Strobel Farms goals that can change week to week.
  • Teach contract growers the correct way of completing the above tasks as you are assisting them.

Overall Responsibilities:

  • Be available by phone for emergencies 24/7.
  • Actively participate in the weekly conference call while being prepared to articulate updates in the barns.
  • Communicate all scheduling needs and have the ability to look ahead at weights to plan out marketing and barn utilization.
  • Ability to recognize health challenges and notify the veterinarian.
  • Communicate with all grower’s updates within the system.
