Job Description

SUMMARY:

  • Supervise and advise in the efficient operation and maintenance of ALL equipment, buildings, grounds, and any other related areas/duties pertaining to the smooth and continuing, non-stop operation of the feed mill complex. This position is a working supervisory position that requires willing dedication and commitment that will guarantee the above statement.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Must be capable of regular and predictable attendance
    • Able to work overtime as needed
    • Able to work holidays as needed
  • Will learn the flow of all materials, incoming and out-going, and the standard operating procedures of all areas of the feed mill. Must be able to learn the computer controls for batching, pelleting, and the sprayed fat at the die systems.
  • Ensure compliance with all governmental regulations and agencies including the Food and Drug Administration (FDA).
  • Understand and ensure compliance with all transportation, environmental and feed production regulations and policies; biosecurity, efficiency, value and timeliness
  • Monitors all feed production equipment and facility.
  • Maintains all required records and documentation related to production, drug/supplement/transport, and related cost reduction opportunities.
  • Establish, implement and monitor an effective preventative maintenance program and assist in appropriate repair/replace decisions.
  • Directly responsible for supervision and maintaining the Preventative Maintenance Program that will assure machinery, ground and buildings are kept in workmanlike condition, meeting or exceeding regulatory compliance, e.g. FDA, GMP’s, OSHA, FISMA, environmental et al.
  • Supervises Maintenance Department personnel in day to day operation to insure minimal downtime, costs, and zero accidents.
  • Is able to determine the needed spare parts and keep on hand (or be able to obtain in a timely manner), imagining a worst case scenario, such as parts as would be needed for repairs to ALL equipment.
  • Organizes, works on and assigns work priorities and scheduling repair, maintenance, and installation of machines, tools and equipment in support of production operations.
  • Will be completely responsible for maintaining a gas fired boiler, and all water treatment procedures and chemicals needed to be able to maintain and protect equipment. This will require learning operating controls, repair procedures, resetting alarms, and training of maintenance personnel. Per shift records of boiler water treatment and test readings must be logged and filled for future reference.
  • Participates in hiring and developing well skilled Maintenance Associates.
  • Collaborates with other departments in resolving maintenance related issues, and also has a collaborative relationship with production, delivery, and safety.
  • Collaborates with Safety Director on Safety related purchases.
  • Other projects and duties related to safety by Safety Director.
  • Other projects and duties as assigned by Feed Mill Operations Manager.
  • Weekly reports to management team.

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Three to five years’ experience in feed mill and management.
  • Strong leadership and problem-solving skills
  • Ability to build a strong team
  • Familiar with livestock production and transportation
  • Efficient in calculations, cost/benefit analysis and complex scheduling methods
  • Individual must be dedicated, motivated, and able to work independently
  • Basic computer skills
  • Valid driver’s license and insurable under company guidelines
    • May be required to obtain a CDL
  • Work well with livestock customers and mill personnel
