Farrowing Manager

About this Job:


The Farrowing Department Lead is responsible for managing and directing the daily operations of the farrowing department.  He or she is responsible for leading employees within the department and managing the daily tasks through training and instruction.  This person must work closely with the Breeding Lead, Gestation Lead and Sow Farm Manager to ensure success of the farm.  


  • Adheres to all standard operating procedures (SOP’s) and ensures that employees do the same
  • Ensure the health and well-being of all animals in terms of nutrition, medication and environment
  • Ensures that rooms are Scraped, swept, power washed and disinfected per company protocol
  • Moves sows from one production area to another
  • Oversees and monitors the birthing process of sows and ensures newborns are properly cared for
  • Oversees and assists in pig processing & administering iron
  • Assists in the weaning of quality piglets
  • Loads  piglets to be transported
  • Repairs ruptures 
  • Oversees the maintenance of the farrowing records and ensures accuracy of them
  • Assists management in controlling ventilation at the farm to maintain good air quality
  • Schedules and conducts routine maintenance on farm equipment
  • Ensures the department has proper supplies to perform daily duties efficiently
  • Assists in keeping the kitchen, restroom, office, and break area clean, orderly and neat

·         Complies with the practices and principals of biosecurity to safeguard the life and health of the swine herd

·         Assists other departments as necessary to ensure daily tasks are completed

·         Assists in other duties as assigned



  • High School Diploma or Equivalent preferred
  • At least 2 years of experience in swine industry is preferred but not necessary



  • Ability to perform repeated dynamic movements from below to above shoulder height

·         Ability to walk, stand, bend, kneel, and squat for extended periods of time

·         Ability to work independently

·         Ability to follow directions

·         Ability to work in fast paced environment

·         Ability to lift at least 50 lbs
