Job Description


The primary objective of the Farm Maintenance Manager will be to maintain the swine farm buildings and equipment for sow and finishing farms located in Iowa, Missouri, and Illinois.  This includes the feed, water, and ventilation systems.  This position will direct and supervise the maintenance services team and coordinate repairs and preventative maintenance to ensure all facilities operate at the highest level of efficiency.

Primary Responsibilities

Farm building equipment & maintenance

  • Inspect buildings and equipment on a routine basis to determine maintenance needs.
  • Schedule and plan all repair, installation, and maintenance activities
  • Prioritize maintenance tasks for the maintenance team.
  • Manage a preventive maintenance program to keep company facilities and equipment operating efficiently.  Provide for routine inspection and maintenance of fans, electrical, heating and cooling systems, curtains and ventilation equipment.
  • Communicate with site managers and other co-workers regarding planned repairs.
  • Analyze information and make decisions to solve problems and diagnose reoccurring issues.
  • Maintain adequate materials and supplies for equipment and building repairs to minimize downtime.
  • Maintain an accurate record of maintenance performed       .
  • For larger projects, prepare estimates of cost and assemble a timeline for the work.


  • Provide daily leadership and direction to the maintenance team.
  • Schedule tasks and work assignments
  • Ensure the team is working in a safe manner
  • Promote a professional and positive work environment.
  • Monitor and evaluate performance.

Bio-security Compliance

  • Comply with all company bio-security protocols including,
    • Shower IN/OUT procedures.
    • Adhering to PRRS pyramid.
    • Ensure all maintenance trucks are clean.
    • Utilization of fogger rooms at all time.
    • Proper shoe cover procedure between car and sow farm entry.
    • Ensure all supplies and tools entering the farms are clean.


  • Perform all maintenance duties in a safe and timely manner.
  • Coordinate all required safety training as needed.
  • Be available to respond to service emergencies 24 hours on a rotating basis, including weekends.
  • Oversee some manure management protocols.
  • Some overnight stays may be required.
  • Other duties as assigned.


  • Proven ability to lead by example and positively influence a group of people.
  • High level of responsibility.
  • Mechanical and electrical skills and an ability to troubleshoot problems.
  • Effective verbal and written communication skills.
  • Basic proficiency in spreadsheet, database and word processing computer skills
  • High attention to detail and thoroughness.
  • Work with limited supervision.
  • Common excel and word, knowledge preferred.

Education and experience

  • Prior swine production experience is preferred, but not a requirement.
  • Previous management and leadership experience is preferred.
