Job Description:

The Breeding Manager is a full-time, position responsible for the management of the breeding department and the supervision of approximately 4-5 employees. This Breeding Manager position is located in Manning, South Carolina.

Job Responsibilities:

  • Assists Farm Manager with all aspects of swine breeding/gestation including, but not limited to:
    • Schedules incoming gilts and outgoing farrowing sows, manages pig flow and pig density
    • Monitors and maintains environment (alarms, ventilation, temperature, mats, heat lamps, etc.), Cleans/power washes equipment and barn
    • Farm upkeep and sanitation including waste management, euthanizing, and dead animal removal
    • Maintains feed schedules, feeder adjustments, feeding back manure, waterers, and watering
    • Observes animal condition, monitors proper body condition
    • Animal Health – treats and vaccinates per protocol
    • Works cooperatively with farm manager and farrowing staff
    • Cross trains in other areas as needed
  • Breeding/Gestation
    • Coordinates A.I. and/or assists with matings
    • Performs heat and pregnancy checks per protocol
    • Oversees breeding/gestation culls
    • Timely and accurately collects breeding/gestation data and completes related records
  • Management
    • Helps farm manager interview and select breeding/gestation staff
    • Provided feedback for staff job performance and evaluations
    • Promptly addresses known conflicts on job performance
    • Coordinates work schedules due to absences
    • Promptly reports all concerns, accidents, and incidents to farm manager

• 3-5 years swine experience on a 2100 head farm with emphasis in breeding (required)
• Education – High School diploma or equivalent; or two to four years’ experience and/or training; or the equivalent combination of education and experience (required)
• Bi-lingual (preferred, not required)
• Aptitude to multi-task and work in a fast-paced, dynamic environment
• Strong internal and external cross-communication skills
• Organizational skills to maintain schedules
• Ability to manage and train production employees
