Key responsibilities include ensuring the proper use, upkeep, and maintenance of feed mill equipment, consistently achieving productivity goals, and cross-training to perform effectively across all mill manufacturing functions. Additionally, this position emphasizes maintaining the highest standards of customer service and fostering collaboration with various departments to support organizational success.

Major Areas of Accountability:

  • Ensure proper safety, equipment and housekeeping procedures are followed.
  • Support and engage in feed mill safety initiatives.
  • Operate machines to produce swine feed to established quality guidelines.
  • Perform necessary quality assurance tests and make necessary adjustments to the grinding process to obtain acceptable quality.
  • Operate load out equipment to properly load trucks in most efficient manner.
  • Perform and monitor proper documentation of the batching, grinding, loadout, and ingredient receiving.
  • Assist in warehouse operations as necessary.
  • Follow defined guidelines to produce quality feed.
  • Assist in routine preventative maintenance on feed mill equipment and maintain required documentation.
  • Responsible for proper feed and load out scheduling.
  • Responsible for proper bin management and utilization.
  • Perform additional duties as assigned by supervisor.

Education, Training, and Experience Requirements:

  • Minimum formal education required: High School
  • Minimum number of years of prior job experience required: Entry Level, 0-1 year

Christensen Farms is the largest shareholder of Triumph Foods LLC, a producer-owned primary pork processing plant in St. Joseph, Missouri. In turn, Triumph Foods members own 50 percent of Daily’s Premium Meats, a specialty pork processor of bacon and other premium pork products. Position Overview & Responsibilities: The Nutrition Manager leads and reviews feed formulation, formula audits, quality control improvements, and the development of optimal feeding programs. Collaborating with operations, vendors, and industry experts, this role drives research initiatives, leads nutrition-focused field trials, and translates findings into actionable strategies to enhance efficiency and maximize value. This role will also provide direct support to the Research Manager through input on research trials ideas, trial design, owning research diet formulation, and coordination support to the research feed mill as needed.

Major Areas of Accountability:

  • Audit all formulas for all mills on a weekly basis to validate correct nutrient and ingredient levels with support of Nutrition and QC specialist
  • Lead quarterly nutrition formulation audit to evaluate consistency in formulas and identify opportunities for future research needs with collaboration of Nutrition and QC Specialist.
  • Review optimal feeding program options through modeling on a quarterly or as needed basis based on input received on ingredient costs, hog value, barn space availability and operations team
  • Create and own the continuous improvement of the internal quality control program including too but not exclusive: further refinement in use of in-house NIR, developing addition routine testing, further refinement on complete feed validation.
  • Partner with Live Operations on nutrition related issues and opportunities for improvement are identified
  • Own relationships with vendors which includes screening products, setting up meetings with appropriate individuals when deemed appropriate, providing feedback, identifying opportunities that should be explored
  • Lead QC mill audits in collaboration of the QC specialist and/or feed order manager or supply chain manager
  • Proactively seeks current and relevant research literature that may provide solutions or areas of opportunity to explore with future research
  • Proactively collaborates with experts within the nutrition field which include but not limited to: Universities, fellow expert nutritionists in industry, Triumph members, and suppliers
  • Owns formulation for Research and as needed provide support research in the following areas: weigh and tag pigs, trial design and setup, input on summary and input on statistics
  • Participate in quarterly research meetings by providing thought provoking ideas, deep discussion of trial design and treatments, and strategic direction of research within Christensen Farms
  • Leads nutrition focused field trials in collaboration with Research Manager

Education, Training, and Experience Requirements:

Education: PhD in Animal Science with a focus in Swine Nutrition is preferred. MS in Animal Science with a Nutrition focus will be considered for individuals with extensive working history and nutrition knowledge.

Experience: 3 (+) years’ experience in swine nutrition is preferred with PhD. 6(+) years’ experience in swine nutrition is preferred with MS.

Highly functional in Microsoft applications including Excel, Word.

Must by proficient in statistical methods and programs
