The Jr Accounting Administrator provides daily accounting control / support to the accounting department in the area of accounts payable and job cost closings for Willard Meats International. In addition, this role provides general accounting support and assistance where needed across accounting department functions for the Willard Group of Companies. This role deals with materials and accounts that are proprietary in nature and all information is held strictly confidential.

This is an entry level position for a talented person who will be responsible for job cost closings, accounts payable and general office administration duties.

QUALIFICATIONS

This position reports to the Director of Iowa State University Extension to Agriculture and Natural Resources and functions in a team relationship with other Extension staff in the area, farm and agriculture business management specialists across Iowa, and campus-based Extension economists. This position will be filled at the Field Specialist I or Field Specialist II level.

The Agriculture and Natural Resources Extension Field Specialist I provides educational leadership in the application of knowledge, grounded in research-based science, to help Iowans and agricultural industry prosper. Educational leadership responsibilities of this position in swine production will focus on the development, delivery, and support for swine producers, swine systems programming, and applied studies.

This position will focus on developing and delivering research-based information and education to Iowa swine industry participants. Information and/or education delivery will be via written materials and presented directly to producers in both face-to-face and small group settings, and will often be in conjunction with and through pork industry partners, which largely occurs with the ISU Iowa Pork Industry Center. Other clientele groups and partners may include other agribusinesses, educational institutions, governmental agencies, farm and conservation organizations and the mass media. The position will also bring subject-matter expertise to interdisciplinary teams addressing priority issues. This position will participate in extramural grant and contract opportunities and be active in revenue generation within the programmatic efforts. Programmatic leadership is provided through the Iowa Pork Industry Center. Subject matter leadership is provided through the College of Agriculture and Life Science’s Departments of Animal Science, Agriculture and Biosystems Engineering, Economics, and Food Science and Human Nutrition. Additional subject matter inputs will come from the Veterinary Diagnostic and Production Animal Medicine department within the College of Veterinary Medicine.

This position will also have the opportunity to be involved with the ISU research programs, either in conjunction with ISU faculty or in demonstration projects conducted in the field. Programmatic leadership could be provided through the College of Agriculture and Life Sciences’ Research and Demonstration Farms or ISU faculty with swine research responsibility.

In addition to Field Specialist I duties, a Field Specialist II will create and deliver comprehensive and complex programming; conduct needs assessment activities and identify and implement innovative ways to meet clients’ needs; take an active role in the development of interdisciplinary programming; and provide leadership/supervision and subject-matter expertise at the local, area and state level.

Required Qualifications
Field Specialist I: Bachelor’s degree in animal science, animal production, or closely related area and three years of relevant professional experience.

Field Specialist II: Bachelor’s degree in animal science, animal production, or closely related area and five years of relevant professional experience; OR Master’s degree in animal science, animal production, or closely related area and three years of relevant professional experience.

Preferred Qualifications
Master’s or PhD in one of the fields stated above. Experience in the agri-business industry. Experience with on-farm swine oriented research projects. Training in swine reproductive management. Experience teaching swine production. Experience that demonstrates the ability to organize, coordinate, and communicate effectively with a wide range of audiences, including agricultural clientele and the mass media.
