The Service Manager is responsible for direction, management and performance of sow production sites within a geographical area. Supervision and development of the sow farm management team to achieve sow system production and personnel development goals will be key to success in this role. The Service Manager will be expected to focus on immediate, mid-term and long-term strategies as they relate to the vision and growth of CF Sow System.
Major Areas of Responsibility:
Responsible for the overall supervision of the care, maintenance, and management of sow units within the geography to achieve goals in the areas of production, employee engagement and financial controls.
Responsible for development and execution of system processes and initiatives utilizing a collaborative approach working with peers and Director of Sow Production
Work with Service Managers and Farm Managers to monitor health, quality and uniformity for maximum quality and quantity of pig flow.
Works in a collaborative setting with support departments to achieve desired outcomes beneficial to both parties
Responsible for implementation of safety and welfare measures for our staff and our animals
Monitor/enhance current and/or future production protocols to maximize efficiency and consistency of sow system in a collaborative effort with peers and Director of Sow Production.
Monitor and address feed quality issues.
Monitor herd health. Make recommendations and participate in decision making for corrective actions.
Monitor Sow System manure management practices to ensure that all county and state environmental requirements are met.
Responsible for creation and content of service manager meetings.
Responsible for keeping the Director of Sow Production informed on a timely basis in regards to scheduling issues, time frames, commitments, production and human resource issues.
In the event of an emergency, ensure that all reports are completed, the situation is contained/controlled and all necessary parties are notified as outlined in the emergency protocol.
Maximize overall herd performance.
Work closely with Nursery-Grow Finish production groups to maintain clear understanding of pig flow, herd health, pig transportation and current sow system production issues.
Use external resources (consultants, seminars articles, research papers, etc.) to assist in maximizing overall system performance.
Responsible for leadership, coaching, development and supervision of Service Managers, Farm Managers, Technicians, and the Sow System in general.
Responsible for providing input to the recruitment process.
Participate in developing and executing a strategic staffing plan for the Sow System.
Monitor and assist with the hiring, orientation and training of all new and existing Sow System employees.
Coaching Farm Managers and Service Managers on personnel issues.
Monitor safety issues and participate in implementing safe workplace practices.
Responsible for upholding company image and promoting it inside and outside the organization.
Responsible for supporting and promoting company policies and procedures.
Responsible for preparing and communicating Service Manager and Farm Manager performance evaluations and planning reviews. Also to ensure that all Sow System reviews are done in a timely manner.
Establish and execute system targets and business plan initiatives annually with Director of Sow Production and Senior Service Managers.
Develop and facilitate individual development plans for Service Managers, Farm Managers and Technicians. Assist and monitor development plans for Service Managers and Farm Managers.
Assist in the development of Sow System training programs and monitor their use and effectiveness.
Preparation of Farm Visit Reports, Plans and summaries with goals, timelines and quantification measurements.
Assist Director of Sows in the development of budgets and cost control measures.
Constant operational review and analysis to find effective cost saving opportunities.
Influence of Costs:
Responsible for the most cost effective and efficient budget control for Sow Sites within Christensen Family Farms. Timely and appropriate problem solving and decision making that will have a positive effect on reduction of turnover and increased employee satisfaction and productivity. Provide input into sow business plan and provide ongoing execution of the sow business plan.
Minimum formal education required: Some college within an agriculture-based major is preferred.
Minimum number of years of prior job experience required: Minimum 3-5 swine production experience.
Requires an individual that has outstanding attention to detail and organizational ability. Basic computer skills/knowledge is required. Ability to manage time and priorities in a fast paced, changing environment. Display a high level of professionalism and confidentiality. Strong interpersonal skills. Ability to communicate effectively, both verbally and in writing. Ability to exercise independent thinking and judgment.
