Sow Farm Manager

About this Job:

Dykhuis Farms, 19,000 sow farrow to finish pork producer in Michigan, is a progressive family-owned farm seeking an experienced swine professional to lead and manage one of our six sow farm systems in the greater-Holland, Michigan area.

The primary focus of the Sow Farm Manager will be centered on the wellbeing of our animals, as well as production efficiency, site maintenance, and providing leadership to the team.

KEY AREAS OF RESPONSIBILITES include the following. Other duties may be assigned.

  • Ensures key production areas are a priority including animal health and treatment, feeding and condition scoring, temperature and environment, & reproductive efficiencies

Production Management including, but not limited to:

  • Plan and direct production phases
  • Implement action plans and goal-setting
  • Communicate upper management, veterinarians, Health Coordinators, and Human Resources
  • Understands pig flow to maximize barn flow
  • Maintains on site equipment with the support of the maintenance team
  • Participates in environmental programs, ensuring farm is in compliance,
  • Complies and enforces Biosecurity
  • Order feed, supplies, equipment, etc for the farm system
  • Responds to emergency calls and able to check in on all shifts, as needed

Employee Management, including, but not limited to:

  • Trains new employees and continual-training of established employees
  • Provide daily leadership and direction
  • Reinforce compliance of all policies and procedures
  • Conduct team meetings to communicate goals and direction of the farm and company
  • Promote a safe, professional, and positive working environment
  • Implement discipline processes as necessary
  • Administer reviews for new employees and annual reviews for all team members
  • Assist Human Resources in recruiting and on boarding new employees

1-3 years of swine production management experience preferred
Ability to manage time, priorities and team effectively in fast-paced, changing environment
Display a high level of professionalism and confidentiality
Ability to work successfully with limited supervision
Ability to recognize and solve problems before they arise, and be proactive in resolving issues
Ability to manage confrontational situations in a fair, consistent, and prompt manner
Possess strong interpersonal and communication skills
Proven ability to lead by example and positively influence a team
Ability to maintain positive working relationships and support organizational processes and procedures
