Sow Farm Gestation Lead

About this Job:

Boerboom Ag Resources is seeking a gestation lead for their new 3,400 head sow farm. The gestation barn features a modern design with Nedap electronic sow feeding.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:     Gestation Lead

  • Lead gestation gilt/sow employees to ensure all daily responsibilities/tasks are performed
  • Oversee semen inventory, handling, and storage to maintain top quality
  • Oversee and train team members in all aspects of gilt development including timely vaccinations, boar exposure, and ESF training
  • Oversee and train team members to conduct all aspects of gilt and sow well-being including daily care, proper vaccinations, body condition scoring and, general pig observation
  • Coordinate animal flow under the direction of the Production Manager and understand its effect on both the sow unit and downstream grow/finish production flows
  • Monitor team member performance versus expectations to maximize sow productivity and efficiencies
  • Provide leadership and skills necessary for a smooth work flow
  • Provide instruction and constructive feedback to gestation department team
  • Ensure the health and welfare of all animals including barn environment, nutrition, and medication
  • Adhere to all Boerboom Ag Resources operating procedures and ensure that all farm personal do the same
  • Maintain and enforce all biosecurity rules and practices
  • Ensure all employees, barn operators, and truckers handle hogs in appropriate manner as outlined in the National Pork Board TQA program, National Pork Board PQA program, or comparable private quality assurance programs adopted by Boerboom Ag Resources


  • Execute principles and standards outlined by the PQA Plus program\
  • Communicate daily with the Production Manager on production, animal health and gestation employee issues
  • Attend and participate in Boerboom Ag Resources scheduled production and planning meetings
  • Achieve weekly and daily work goals

  • Respect and humane care for all animals is required

Experience: 2+ Years Livestock Experience with High School Diploma Preferred

Ability to work Rotating weekend schedule
