Senior Production Manager – Commercial Sow Production

Job Summary:

Reporting to the Director of Production, the Senior Production Manager – Commercial Sow Production will be responsible for ensuring optimal production levels are achieved within the commercial sow farm locations. You will lead a group of Production Managers while demonstrating a commitment to the Company’s production goals, the Companies Core Values, Policies, Strategies, and Initiatives.

As a member of the Senior Production Management Team, you are a direct representative of the Company and therefore are expected to lead by example, demonstrating outstanding commitment and professionalism.  This will include, but not be limited to, providing leadership through strong communication, promotion and implementation of the Company’s Core Values.

Cost control and fiscal responsibility of production assets are qualities that must be demonstrated. This position must ensure that budgets and financial targets are set and are clearly communicated to production units, and actual results are compared to targets.  Action plans will also be developed and implemented to address deviations from targets.

Primary Responsibilities:


  • Providing leadership to over 16 production units, housing 51,000 sows
  • Review and set production and performance targets to achieve the Corporate Goals
  • Ensure there is consistent alignment on company values and policies throughout the organization.
  • Provide strong leadership, ensuring production units are operating efficiently through effective fiscal & production planning, coaching, mentoring, direction, coordination and monitoring of production activities in accordance with established Standard Operating Procedures, Best Practices, Strategies and Initiatives.
  • Communication of both positive and negative results and incidents to the Senior Management Team is critical to ensure that production issues remain at the forefront.
  • Accessibility for emergencies is required.
  • This position will be based out of Humboldt, SK but will also require 40% – 50% travel throughout Western Canada


  • Responsible for the general Health and Safety of all employees at all times.
  • Promote and support Health and Safety practices and awareness throughout the organization in accordance with the Corporate Safety Policy and ensure compliance.
  • Promote a culture that supports our commitment to safety by supporting and promoting safety programs, safety initiatives, training and Provincial Regulations.


  • Promote and support a high standard of Animal Welfare awareness throughout the organization;
  • Responsible for ensuring all practices and procedures in animal handling and treatments are in accordance to acceptable current ACA and company standards;
  • Responsible for supporting, promoting, implementing, and ongoing monitoring of initiatives and recommendations from the Animal Welfare Committee.


  • Oversee company operations to ensure production efficiency & cost effective management of resources;
  • To promote revenue focus, profitability and growth through the organization;
  • Ensure that budgets and financial targets are clearly communicated to production units.

• Bachelor of Agriculture, Business Administration, Engineering, Operations or other relevant post secondary degree or equivalent experience;
• Minimum of 8-10 years of experience in swine production management;
• Experience managing a range of production projects and continuous improvement;
• Demonstrated ability to identify opportunities, create strategies & successfully drive improvements;
• Must have demonstrated ability to lead and develop direct reports for succession opportunities;
• Self-driven and motivated;
• Must have the ability to deal with high-pressure situations;
• Good business sense;
• Strong aptitude for interpersonal relationships;
• Good computer skills.
