Research Assistant (Anatomy & Physiology)

About this Job:

The Department of Anatomy & Physiology within the College of Veterinary Medicine is seeking applicants for a Research Assistant. This position is for a highly motivated and detail oriented individual who will assist in research in producing monoclonal antibodies and developing diagnostic tools for high impact swine viral infectious diseases. The successful candidate will plan and conduct experiments, keep laboratory records and write/edit manuscripts and articles, complete diagnostic tests and determine, carryout and modify methods, procedures and techniques.

Duties & Responsibilities:

  • This position will assist in research in producing monoclonal antibodies and developing diagnostic tools for high impact swine viral infectious diseases.
  • The individual will perform antigen preparation, mouse immunization, generation and screening of monoclonal antibodies, development of diagnostic assays with the direct guidance from the Research Project Manager and PI.
  • Technical skills include cell culture, immunoassays (ELISA, western blot and immune-fluorescence), and basic molecular biology techniques (PCR, plasmid propagation and cloning).
  • Responsibilities will also include ordering lab supplies, and helping research scientists, junior postdoc and graduate students.
Requirement:

Required Minimum Qualifications:

Bachelor’s degree

Preferred Qualifications:

Master’s degree in a biomedical field
Two or more years laboratory experience in animal experiments, ELISA, Western Blot, cell culture, PCR and RT-PCR
Ability to write technical reports and Standard Operating Procedures

Salary:
$ 17.05 - $ 28.97 per hour
