Research Assistant 2 – B/H

About this Job:
Summary of Duties

Assists manager with overall implementation of agricultural crops and swine research programs; works collaboratively with manager, CFAES faculty and staff in planning and implementation of field research programs at agricultural research station; assists with instruction of seasonal employees on field operations to carry out crops research; duties include coordinating operations for crop based field experiments; plot design and layout, collection of data samples according to project protocols; prepares data, summarizes and reports; operates, calibrates, adjusts and repairs agricultural machinery and specialized equipment; applies experimental treatments according to project protocols; collects data on crop yields and growth parameters and records other observations which may affect experimental results; assists with general operations including grounds, facilities and machinery maintenance; keeps detailed records of field operations and treatment parameters; assists with field days and other public events; interacts and carries out other duties on behalf of investigators; occasionally performs similar duties at other research station locations as required; works adjusted schedules according to weather, soil and crop conditions.

Required Qualifications

Bachelor’s degree in Crop Science or Ag Systems Management or an equivalent combination of education and experience; ability to assist manager with overall farming practices in a field research environment; ability to operate and repair farm machinery; working knowledge of precision agriculture technology and equipment applications; working knowledge of Microsoft Office software, email, web browser; excellent communication and collaboration skills in a team work environment; must have, or be able to obtain, a pesticide license within 12 months of employment; must be able to lift 75 pounds, and work altered work schedules as required by weather, soil and crop conditions to meet deadlines.

Desired Qualifications

Ability to translate, adapt, and apply academic or practical knowledge in conduct of biological research; two years of experience in crop production and research; commercial driver’s license; livestock production experience.
