Job Description
Curly’s, a member of the John Morrell Food Group is currently looking for an Operations Associate. The Operations Associate (OA) is in a 12-18 month program that includes rotational assignments in Operations, Safety, Human Resources, Accounting, and Quality.  An OA is given exposure across the manufacturing team and deep experience in a selected discipline.  The associate will work with their manager for the development of targets to develop core leadership and functional skills through the plant manufacturing rotational assignments, ultimately learning all facets of the business.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following. Other duties may be assigned.

Responsible for working with cross functional members of the plant’s leadership team to gain exposure across the operations team, while remaining flexible and accommodating ever changing business needs.

Responsible for staying abreast of current company policies as they relate to Safety, Quality, Food Safety, Regulatory, environmental issues, etc.  Will promote safety (people and food) in the work place and apply teamwork approach to all tasks.

  • Maintain a competent, trained work force at determined head count.
  • Monitor and trains all employees  for adherence to good manufacturing practices (GMP)
  • Assures standard operating procedures and Hazard Analysis Critical Control Points (HACCP) requirements are followed.
  • Helps develop and meet plant safety goals. Participates in safety/environmental self-audits & visual checks, and champions all safety activities.
  • Assures daily production schedules are met and all issues are communicated timely.
  • Conducts/assists with employee relations investigations.
  • Work towards baseline variances at better or above goals.
  • Participate in scheduling and ensuring mechanical Preventative Maintenance is conducted.
  • Tracks cost savings projects under his/her control to meet objectives.
  • Develop future cost savings projects to meet objectives.
  • Ensures compliance to product specifications throughout the manufacturing process.
  • Address team member’s concerns/requests in a timely and caring manner.
  • Ensure accuracy of reports.  Submit production reports timely.
  • Checks and verifies timekeeping for assigned team members daily.
  • Have trained backups for all key position with a depth chart.
  • Complete all monthly/weekly training.
  • Issues corrective actions as required.
  • Train all team members in company and regulatory policy i.e. OSHA, EPA, USDA/FSIS, EEOC

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES

This job has supervisory responsibilities for up to 25 production workers.

Requirement:
Required Experience
  • Bachelor’s degree in Business, Engineering, Food Science, Quality, Safety or other related disciplines is required.
  • Require experience with Microsoft Office.
  • This is an entry level position and understanding of food processing, supervisory responsibilities and bi-lingual skills desired.

 REQUIRED SKILLS

  • Strong interpersonal, or
  • Oganizational and analytical skills
  • Excellent communication skills.
  • Ability to multi-task.
  • Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions at all levels of the organization.
  • Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals.

The work environment characteristics described here are representative of those an employee encounters while performing the essential functions of this job. Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform the essential functions.

The employee will be continuously exposed to temperatures ranging from 38 – 40 degrees.  The noise level in the work environment is sufficient to cause the worker to shout in order to be heard above the ambient noise level.  Personal Protective Equipment is required.
