Direction given by the Sow Farm Manager and Farrowing Manager to minimize stillborn pigs and pre-weaning mortality by focusing on specific details during the birthing of newborn pigs and their first day of life. To maximize lactation feed intakes of sows in farrowing.
Monitor and assist sows as necessary
Newborn pigs <1.5 pounds at birth should be immediately euthanized and recorded as an euthanized piglet death on the sow card. Newborn piglets are to be "hot boxed" as born to warm them up immediately. Newborn piglets are to be "spit suckled" Comply with the herd health restrictions on any litter to litter movements Follow the herd health protocol Ensure feed lines run and boxes are refilled for dropping during the next feeding period. Ensure farrowing supplies used during the day are cleaned, disinfected and stored properly. Non Essential duties

Farrowing experience preferred but willing to train.
