Logistics Coordinator

About this Job:

BASIC FUNCTION:

The Logistics Coordinator is responsible for managing and coordinating the logistical operations and functions of the managed farms for Professional Swine Management, LLC; and for ensuring customer satisfaction, both internally and externally, through coordinated processes. The Logistics Coordinator communicates with the Director of Operations and the production team on a regular basis to ensure that movement of pigs from the managed farms is a smooth process.

DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Oversees the boar stud courier system including route management, delivery issues, customer relations
  • Performs vehicle inspections and training for the boar stud courier system including regular inspections and auditing of process
  • Prepares and distributes delivery documents for shipments; including health certificates, driving directions, and contact information for all shipments as required. This is for internal and external customers as needed by Vets
  • Inputs data of inventories, mortality, start date, group IDs, etc. for the managed finishing system into the accounting program. The inventories have to be done weekly and accurately reported to the finishing and accounting teams on a timely basis
  • Maintains accurate Inventories and gilt flows with PIC for their outside customers of  gilts in finishers and sow farms
  • Develops, plans, balances, and maintains the managed farm delivery schedules
  • Maintains continuous communications with transportation companies,  company management, managed farm owners, wean pig agreement holders, farm and support staff, and veterinarians
  • Develops and distributes weekly transportation schedules, cull sow schedules and truck wash schedules
  • Assists with transportation bid process as needed or directed by farm owners from initial bid process through contract
  • Ensures transportation companies are following company established SOPs
  • Works closely with finishing managers and contract growers to maintain accurate records of weekly inventories, mortality and animal movements for entry into the accounting database
  • Communicates with the production team on a regular basis to maintain smooth flow of animals
  • Coordinates and schedules all animal phase movement dates and projected production to contract growers, transportation companies, and finishing production managers
  • Maintains, coordinates, and communicates all gilt sales and slaughter loads from the finishing system
  • Accepts emergency after hour phone calls and responds as necessary
  • Maintains and develops positive business relationships internally and externally, and attends  meetings as assigned
  • Analyzes the cost effectiveness of transportation companies
  • Ensures assigned tasks and projects are completed
  • Performs other duties as assigned
Requirement:

KNOWLEDGE AND SKILLS:

Prior principles and practices of logistics management is preferred. Requires effective oral and written communication skills, excellent interpersonal skills, excellent attention to detail, computer literacy (Microsoft Office), and project management skills.

EDUCATION AND WORK EXPERIENCE:

1. A Bachelor degree in Ag Business or related field, AND Accounting experience

2. 1-2 years experience in supply chain management, logistics or transportation, OR

3. 4. Any similar combination of education and experience
