Livestock Accountant

About this Job:

The Livestock Accountant will perform and coordinate livestock payments and accounting processes following industry regulations and company policies. The position will process daily livestock settlement transactions, on board producer setups, payables, general ledger activity, and various other reporting requirements as needed. The Accountant will also assist with the implementation and execution of sound internal control procedures and with monthly, quarterly, and annual reporting. The position requires clear communication with producers and colleagues in both the livestock and accounting functions.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • Ensure accuracy of data prior to upload into financial accounting system used for processing payments and adjustments
  • Book daily liabilities for insurance
  • Assist procurement staff in tracking and accounting for daily delivery of loads
  • Project monthly estimates of livestock purchases
  • Calculate and reconcile any payment deferrals
  • Fully participate and assist in facilitating a timely and accurate month-end closing process
  • Provide 3rd party with bill of lading and tracking of relevant data
  • Manage assigned general accounting processes, including market to market calculations and analysis, preparing and recording journal entries, and executing other closing tasks and controls as assigned
  • Special projects as assigned that may require working with members of the Procurement Leadership Team
