Farrowing Lead Animal Care Worker

In turn, Triumph Foods members own 50 percent of Daily’s Premium Meats, a specialty pork processor of bacon and other premium pork products.  Triumph Foods also holds a 50 percent partnership in Seaboard Triumph Foods, LLC of Sioux City, Iowa, a primary pork processing plant.

Primary Job Function:

Has immediate responsibility for tasks outlined in Job 01 of the SOP manual. In addition to Job 01 responsibilities, the Farrowing Lead will be responsible for scheduling of departmental daily task completion and verifying completion of tasks in the farrowing house. The Farrowing Lead will report daily activities to the farm manager and recommend future task scheduling.

Major Areas of Accountability

General Production

The Farrowing Lead must have proven his/her ability to perform all competencies at a high level identified in the Herdsperson Job Title specific to farrowing tasks. In addition, accountability of the following areas –

    1. Induction process
    2. Assisting sows
    3. Colostrum management of the newborn piglet
    4. Adherence of SOP processes setting the example for all other staff members including but not limited to;
      1. Maximizing lactation length
      2. Lactation feeding
      3. Weaning processes
      4. Temping sows
    5. Scheduling of daily tasks in the farrowing department of the sow farm.
    6. Communication with the farm manager on task completion and future tasks needing scheduling in the future.
    7. Weekend accountability of task completion in the absence of the farm manager. Report concerns or problems to the farm manager for resolution.

Ability to manage time and priorities in a fast paced changing environment. Display a high level of professionalism and confidentiality. Strong interpersonal skills. Ability to communicate effectively, both verbally and in writing. Ability to exercise independent thinking and judgment. Have the desire to learn and improve upon results.
