Farm Supervisor

About this Job:

This position requires hands-on experience managing and supervising staff and the operation of a working pork production facility. Swine farm supervisor responsibilities include but are not limited to: heat detection / breeding, farrowing care and piglet processing, diet formulation, establishing both commodity and niche animal sales, lab teaching and coordination of research projects with the department of Animal Sciences. The successful candidate will be involved with all aspects of a working swine operation and will be required to supervise employees, including student employees. Position will involve driving vehicles and farm equipment.

Farm Supervisor will manage the daily production activities relative to the Standard Operating Procedures for the unit. This includes semen collection/heat detection/breeding, farrowing care and piglet processing, diet formulation, and establishing both commodity and niche animal sales. The incumbent will be expected to make all decisions on breeding, semen selection and purchases, animal culling and herd health needs.

Responsible for the purchase of all facility and herd health supplies and to monitor the maintenance program for farm facilities, machinery and equipment. Also, the incumbent is required to maintain proper safety and sanitary conditions of farm operations and to consult with research, teaching and extension faculty in facilitating animal needs of the Department of Animal Sciences.

Counsel employees as needed, recruits, hires and trains new personnel and sets schedules for all employees

Responsible for all facility and animal record keeping.

High school diploma or equivalent and three years of experience working on an agricultural operation, including supervision of others. Appropriate college coursework or vocational/technical training may substitute at an equivalent rate for the required years of experience.

Valid Florida driver’s license

Bachelor’s degree in agriculture or related field and possess experience with swine husbandry and management.
Be able to lift 60 lbs.

$38,900 - $43,900 annually; commensurate with education, skills, and experience
