Coordinator, Occupational Health & Safety

About this Job:

POSITION SUMMARY:

The successful candidate will be responsible for assisting in the development, implementation and maintenance of Maple Leaf Food’s Occupational Health & Safety (OHS) programs.  This includes, but is not limited to assisting in the development of safe work procedures, WCB claims management, investigations, and training.

KEY ACCOUNTABILITIES:

  • Assist in the identification and reduction of Health & Safety risks and hazards
  • Participate in incident investigations and assist in the development of corrective actions
  • Maintain OHS metrics, new hire orientation, hearing test data and SCBA equipment inspection
  • Design and deliver training programs for employees and Safety Committee members to comply with legislative requirements
  • Ensure documentation is logged and filed for quick reference
  • Assist in facilitation of the OHS Training Matrix, make recommendations on what training to complete, and assist in organizing training with internal or external vendors
  • Assist with WCB file management
  • Meeting regulatory filing and reporting requirements
  • Participate in Joint Occupational Health & Safety Committee meetings
  • Some travel may be required on a periodic basis
Requirement:

Required:
• Strong communication, interpersonal, organization and analytical skills
• Computer skills – Strong proficiency in Excel, Word, and Power Point
• Must be extremely organized and a self-starter; able to work with limited supervision
Preferred:
• Post-secondary education (diploma or certificate program) in Occupational Health & Safety
• 1-3 years of experience in health & safety
• Knowledge of health & safety legislation
• Knowledge of compliance and regulatory training of all personnel working onsite
