Communications Specialist

About this Job:

The Communications Specialist position will be involved in and provide support to all communications, public relations, public affairs, marketing and programs of Iowa Select Farms.

This position will ensure all company communication strategies and tactics support Iowa Select Farms’ commitment to the four pillars of SelectCare™—people care, animal care, environment care and community care.

The Communications Specialist role will report to the Director of Communications and directly support the Director of Communications, Director of Public Affairs and Communications Manager.


  • Provide program support for neighbor relations initiative—mailings, email marketing, outreach and administrative oversite of customer relationship management (CRM) platform
  • Support weekly email marketing outreach to key audiences by loading, proofing, testing, scheduling and deploying content, including oversight of contact database maintenance
  • Provide customer service and program support efforts to the recipients of the Deb and Jeff Hansen Foundation, including but not limited teachers, food pantry coordinators, family readiness coordinators, community organizations and state-wide nonprofits.
    • Outreach and capture orders
    • Accuracy track current and historical data
    • Create distribution routes and deliver logistics
  • Serve as a company ambassador and member of the event coordination team at all company and Foundation events
  • Assist with the development and implementation of all company marketing communications (advertising, literature, promotions, events, public relations, website and online engagement)
  • Coordinate web page maintenance ensure that new and consistent information (article links, stories, photos and videos) is posted regularly on company website
  • Post content created by communications team on company social media channels—Instagram, Facebook, LinkedIn, Twitter, company website and intranet.
  • Oversee organization and inventory of marketing materials, clothing and promotional items
  • Provide support for customer outreach and tour program which includes coordinating catering, preparing tour areas onsite and all duties as needed
  • Assist with maintaining photo files and maintaining asset management strategy for all communication functions.

BA or BS degree in communications, public relations, marketing or related degrees, experience and/or background in agriculture preferred
At least one year of work experience in communications, public relations or sales and marketing.
Candidate must have demonstrated success with integrated marketing and communications planning and execution across various communication platforms.
Candidate must demonstrate experience and capability of posting content to and across all social media channels, including but not limited to Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, LinkedIn and the company intranet and blog.
Candidate must have the ability to manage and contribute to a CRM system and interface with email marketing system
Candidate must have strong customer service skills, the ability to articulate well and communicate issues to a variety of audiences.
Candidate must have an understanding of current and emerging issues in food animal production.
Candidate must have strong networking and relationship-building skills
Ability to work well in partnerships involving a wide variety of stakeholders and organizations.
Strong personal initiative, problem-solving skills, creativity and ability to work independently and as a member of a team.


Must be detail-oriented and have a high degree of accuracy, quality control and thoroughness.
Must able to manage timelines, manage multiple tasks and meet deadlines.
Must be available for weekend and evening work, when necessary.

Have the ability to travel, including a valid driver’s license.

Have the ability to regularly walk and stand, sit at a desk and work on a computer for extended periods of time.
