Biosecurity Technician (Inner Sanctum Transport)

About this Job:

PURPOSE OF POSITION:

Ensure that market semi-trucks and trailers meet bio-security guidelines.  Includes the inspection of trucks and trailers post wash.  Also assist in movement of semi-tractors and trailers from the internal wash bays to the dryers to the parking lot.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Adhere to ISF bio-security policy at all times and report to management team any violations.
  • Adhere to ISF animal wellbeing policy at all times and know reporting procedures when incident occurs.
  • Adhere to ISF safety policies and procedures and wear appropriate safety equipment (PPE) for appropriate tasks and work in a safe manner.
  • Monitor all aspects of the washing and disinfecting process
  • Ensure wash bay is cleaned and disinfected between each washing.
  • Inspect all trailers, trucks and tractors post-cleaning and order re-cleaning when necessary. (Rewash trailers that have been down for more than one week.)
  • Ensure trailers and vehicles are equipped with functional tools and supplies.
  • Clean boots and coveralls
  • Sort panels – free of any cracks at the base
  • Rattle paddles – intact with BB’s
  • Conduct quality control tests as required by management.
  • Monitor upkeep of exterior grounds, including used wood chip storage.
  • Understand and schedule the flow of trucks and trailers through the wash in an efficient manner to meet transport schedules.
  • Drive semi-tractor and trailer on grounds to move in and out of wash bays.
  • Any and all other tasks assigned by the manager/supervisor.
  • Demeanor should be positive and professional at all times.
  • Daily focus should be on welfare of animals, not personal issues.
  • Attendance is critical. Be at work on scheduled days and be ready to work by start time given.
  • Be friendly, positive, helpful, team-oriented and respectful to co-workers and management team.
  • Flexibility in hours during health and staffing challenges is required.
  • Working on all weather conditions is required.
Requirement:

Bilingual: Preferred

Education/ Experience: Ability to drive and back a truck and semi-tractor

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

This person must be a self-starter and be able to schedule tasks and motivate people. Thus, they must have initiative, organization, and dependability. Physical requirements include the ability to lift 75 pounds and to climb in and out of livestock tractors and trailers. While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to walk and stand, use hands to finger, handle, or feel objects, tools or controls. The employee is occasionally required to reach with hands and arms; climb or balance; and talk or hear. This position requires a lot of walking, up to 10 miles per day. It also includes routine climbing in and out of trailers that are 48 inches in height. This position also includes stooping or bending between a space that is 48 inches in height for up to 10 minutes at a time repetitively each shift.

This position requires the truck wash assistant to work closely with logistics staff, truck drivers, wash crews, supervisors and other employees, so teamwork and effective communication skills are very important. Bilingual language skills would be beneficial to fulfill the requirements of this position. Computer literacy is important with competencies in Microsoft Outlook, Excel, Word, Access and Internet Explorer. The employee must be able to, with or without accommodation, work in all facilities within the requirements of this job description.
