Biosecurity Manager – Market Transport

About this Job:


To assure the cleanliness, proper disinfection and biosecurity of all equipment passing through the Iowa Select Farms Truck Washes.  This person will lead the training and auditing processes for the wash team emphasizing protocols and the importance of continuous compliance.


  • Adhere to ISF bio-security policy at all times and report to management team any violations.
  • Adhere to ISF animal wellbeing policy at all times and know reporting procedures when incident occurs.
  • Adhere to ISF safety policies and procedures and wear appropriate safety equipment (PPE) for appropriate tasks and work in a safe manner.
  • Assist in the development of Standard Operating Procedures (SOP’s) for the truck washes
  • Train current and new employees/contractors on the SOP’s
  • Assign drivers to loads on weekly schedule and enter timecards into ADP (payroll system)
  • Help schedule maintenance services and manage supplies at both truck stations
  • Manage drivers and their schedules
  • Monitor all aspects of the washing, drying and disinfecting process
  • Ensure wash bay is cleaned and disinfected between each washing.
  • Endure dryer is clean and functional and that each trailer completes a full drying cycle.
  • Inspect all trailers, trucks and tractors post-cleaning and order re-cleaning when necessary. (Rewash trailers that have been down for more than one week.)
  • Ensure trailers and vehicles are equipped with functional tools and supplies.
  • Clean boots and coveralls
  • Sort panels – free of any cracks at the base
  • Rattle paddles – intact with BB’s
  • Conduct quality control tests as required by management.
  • Monitor wood chip inventory and cleanliness of storage facility.
  • Monitor upkeep of exterior grounds, including used wood chip storage.
  • Understand and schedule the flow of trucks and trailers through the wash in an efficient manner to meet transport schedules.
  • Monitor vehicle maintenance and ensure vehicles are serviced on routine basis.
  • Drive semi-tractor and trailer on grounds to move in and out of wash bays.
  • Complete weekly propane and environmental reports.
  • Report breaks in the system to immediate supervisor and/or the Director of Veterinary Services.

  • Demeanor should be positive and professional at all times.
  • Daily focus should be on welfare of animals, not personal issues.
  • Attendance is critical. Be at work on scheduled days and be ready to work by start time given.
  • Be friendly, positive, helpful, team-oriented and respectful to co-workers and management team.
  • Flexibility in hours during health and staffing challenges is required

Bilingual: Preferred

Education/ Experience: At least five years previous swine production experience is desired.


This person must be a self-starter and be able to schedule tasks and motivate people. Thus, they must have initiative, organization, and dependability. Physical requirements include the ability to lift 40 pounds and to climb in and out of livestock tractors and trailers. While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to walk and stand, use hands to finger, handle, or feel objects, tools or controls. The employee is occasionally required to reach with hands and arms; climb or balance; and talk or hear.

This position requires the Biosecurity Compliance Specialist to work closely with logistics staff, truck drivers, wash crews, supervisors and other employees, so teamwork and effective communication skills are very important. Bilingual language skills would be beneficial to fulfill the requirements of this position. Computer literacy is important with competencies in Microsoft Outlook, Excel, Word, Access and Internet Explorer.
