The University of Miami Miller School of Medicine is seeking a clinical veterinarian to join our team of veterinarians to assist in the care of laboratory animals at the University of Miami. This position reports to the Director of the Division of Veterinary Resources. Responsibilities of this position include veterinary diagnostic and preventative medicine for large and small laboratory animal species. Competence in surgical and procedural skills is required. The individual selected will participate in day to day management and implementation of clinical activities in the division, and is encouraged to participate in professional and scientific activities as time allows. The individual will have an opportunity to assist scientists in the use and development of pertinent animal research models, participate with the Institutional Animal Care and Use Committee and potentially other regulatory committees.
The University of Miami facilities include four major AAALAC-accredited animal resource programs: the Miller School of Medicine, the Coral Gables Campus, the South Campus and the Rosenstiel School of Marine and Atmospheric Science. At the Miller School of Medicine, the Bascom-Palmer Eye Institute continues to be rated as one of the nation's best centers for ocular care. The Diabetic Research Institute is recognized as a world leader in cure-focused research and a pioneer in islet cell transplantation. Innovative research continues at the world's largest comprehensive spinal cord injury research center, the Miami Project to Cure Paralysis, and at the UM Sylvester Comprehensive Cancer Institute. Multiple species are maintained by UM and include rodents, fish, amphibians, reptiles, rabbits, cats, dogs, swine, ruminants, and NHPs.
Doctorate Degree and one year minimum of experience. Position requirements include DVM/VMD from an AVMA-accredited institution and current veterinary licensure in at least one state. Prior experience in laboratory animal medicine and familiarity with regulatory requirements related to animal health and welfare is preferred, but not required. ACLAM Board Certification or the ability to become certified is desirable. Excellent interpersonal, written and verbal communication skills and an ability to work in a team environment are essential.
